Wow, I haven't been on here in a while. I can't remember everything that's happened in the past couple weeks lol Work is generally going okay. Same shit, really. There's a new girl. She's going to be the bookeeper, officially. I know she isn't taking my place... like she won't be there fulltime or anything. But, I still can't trust those people completely.

Christmas was good :) So, Merry Christmas a week late.

I had thought I was done Christmas shopping for my parents, but nope, I wasn't. So I had to go shopping Christmas Eve! Eek! Luckily, it was a very short day at work. My sister went with me. I found everything I needed and I was happy haha. I spoiled my parents this year; it was the first year I could actually afford to get them more than like, a movie or two.

My sister was very happy with her gifts. She loves her new DS games and adores her new video camera :)

I loved what my parent's got me! I got a few books, and cute pjs and stuff like that. And I got a very cute Betty Boop purse with a matching wallet. I freaking looove it. And I got an iPod touch. Which was pretty awesome. And then other things here and there.

So yeah, it was a good Christmas. Including the amaaaazing dinner after. Yum.

New Years Eve tomorrow. Another early work day. And then I have to go to the bank. Then Michelle is going to come get me, and we need to head to the liquor store since they won't be open Friday night.

I was under the impression that Chels & I would be hanging out for New Years. Taylor is having a party. She said if Scott was home, then we'd all go together. Scott is home. And I won't be joining in. She said they are just staying home. Hmm. Kinda sucks getting ditched for the boyfriend. Oh well. I don't mind staying home. Again.

Possibly one of the most heartbreaking things I've ever heard..
[and I thought the original was amazing..but this version puts Sufjan on an entirely new level]
If i was crying
In the van with my friend
It was for freedom
From myself and
From the land.

Day 24 → Whatever tickles your fancy: A webcomic rec! Do you like pretty and detailed artwork? Episodic storytelling? Apocalypses? Read Freakangels. They post six pages every Friday, unless they skip a week, which is torturous but thankfully fairly rare. The site navigation sucks a bit, so here is a thoughtful and kind link to the first page. The volumes can also be bought in print, and are probably well worth it if you like that kind of thing.

In other news, my new alarm clock might be possessed by demons. I haven't hooked it up yet because I could not be fucked to clear space in my room for its immense footprint or figure it out last night, even though my brother had plugged it in under the tree to play with it a little. Anyway, I unplugged it from the wall yesterday, and I am fairly certain it has no backup battery to power it in the absence of AC juice (I didn't put one in it, anyway), and yet my mom informed me tonight that the alarm went off while she was making dinner.

So anyway, I guess if you want to get me a belated Christmas gift, an exorcism might be nice.

Day 22 → A website: Television Without Pity, what would I do without your snark? Can I please write for you?
Day 23 → A YouTube video:

For giftmas, I got giftcards for Lush, EB Games and Chapters; a new alarm clock with an ipod dock (although I only use the buzzer aspect of alarm clocks but hey, self-setting, weekday/weekend dual alarms, and a DST switch, so that's cool); and a GPS! I am pretty excited about this GPS. I ended up doing all my gift-wrapping in bags because I Did Not Care. Dinner was amazing (there is so much stuffing left over, I am delighted) and I ate myself nearly into a food coma. That's wearing off now; I think I want some egg nog.

I work 11-7 tomorrow. Ugh. UGH.

Also, I am excited beyond reason to go see Sherlock Holmes. I intend to do this within the next week.

Merry Christmas from London! [Dec. 25th, 2009|11:00 am]

[Current Location |St James's Gardens, London, UK]

Merry green, grey, warm and damp Christmas, y'all! Seriously, there are flowers blooming.

Christmas Day in London is also apparently stay-in-unless-you're-walking-to-church/maybe-the-pub? day. Public transit is all stopped for the day. There isn't a bus, train, tube line or boat running.

Some other observations:
my bed feels like a board, lol
they all have real Christmas trees!
there are wild cockatiels in the garden next door
the gardens look like something out of The Secret Garden
unlike Oslo, there is not a fashion for smurf-like wool hats here, or knitted or wool hats at all, so my fuchsia cap is distinctly odd
it doesn't so much rain all the time as randomly and without warning
prices here are only cheap compared to Norway, I think, but I'm not entirely sure because I'm too used to Norwegian prices
the tube is seriously tube-shaped. I wasn't actually expecting that
There are "mind the gap" "stand clear of the doors" "a train is arriving, please stand back of the yellow line" "mind your belongings, there are pickpockets" type messages all the time in the underground, and it feels almost parental, kinda like I'm 4. In Oslo, they didn't even warn you when the t-bane doors were closing, and if you tried to run in between, they wouldn't stop closing and you'd get caught and have to pull them apart a bit to get yourself free

I try to imagine ladies in dresses and men in greatcoats and horses and carriages and such when I'm walking around... sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I still can't quite get my head around where I am. The accents are really strange to me. I heard some guy speaking what I guess is cockney, and couldn't quite believe he wasn't pretending. I had no idea that all these different accents coexisted right next to each other, in the same neighbourhoods; I thought they were more geographically spread out, that they'd be less strong and mixed together more. I feel like I'm inside a TV program sometimes.

Sometime while on holiday I'd like to finally get around to writing about Iceland and then take on Oldenburg and the rest of my exchange. No promises though.

Day 21 → A recipe: The last cheesecake recipe you will ever need. You're welcome.

Egg nog + SoCo = yes

It's 2am. I work 9-5 tomorrow and have some kind of plans for the evening. Still not done giftmas presents and nor have I wrapped anything. Sigh. I DID get up to the end of episode 8 of Dexter tonight while madly working on my sister-in-law's present (and drinking)! No marathons, but a couple episodes a day. Yep. I enjoy when Dex nerd-babbles, eg. the meteorology conference. Also, John Lithgow is a scary motherfucker, particularly when he's smiling.

Let's move giftmas to the 26th this year. Who cares about Boxing Day anyway?

Day 19 → A talent of yours: I'm a leading expert on social awkwardness and putting my foot in my mouth. Otherwise, my more 'interesting' talents include the ability to cross my eyes, open twist-off beer bottles with my navel (yes, you read that correctly, and that was a fun night when I discovered that), and rotate my index fingers in opposite directions at once. This talent is closely related to the ability to pat your head and rub your tummy at the same time.

Day 20 → A hobby of yours: I crochet. (I can knit, too, but I prefer to crochet.) If you're on Ravelry, so am I.

And now, Jillian has unintentionally convinced me that it's late enough in the year for the LJ Year in Review! A fine tradition, four years running.

Post the first line (or two) from the first (real) LJ post of every month, for an LJ Year in Review 2009.
Life kept piling shit higher and higher; I watched a lot of TV but eventually posted less about it; got addicted to Twitter; and went back to school with much lack of forethought and startling success )

Day 17 → An art piece (painting, drawing, sculpture, etc.):

(drawn by [info]stereotypist, maker of Pictures for Sad Children)

Day 18 → Whatever tickles your fancy: Press in Dire Situations

Day off tomorrow. Don't know if I'm going to be social or madly crochet xmas presents while marathoning Dexter. Sleeping in is definitely on the schedule, though.

Day 16 → A song that makes you cry (or nearly): It's tough to make me cry, so we'll go with an example of a song that makes me generally :(, of which there are indeed several: Floating in the Forth - Frightened Rabbit

Successfully turned K_ into a trekkie today through judicious application of the new movie, TOS episodes and Star Trek II and III. Then we rocked the shit out of some Guitar Hero until our eyes bled. Good times!

Tomorrow I work 1-9pm at the mall, on the last Saturday before Christmas. Bad times!

Who wants a $10 coupon for a paid account (applicable to a year of paid time, which is normally $25USD for a one-off or $19 and change if you pick the auto-pay option, which can of course be turned off after paying)?

I have ten. Woo, holiday cheer.

Day 15 → A fanfic: Ample Nacelles by [info]rhaegal. It is a Star Trek fic. The pairing is Enterprise/Narada. Yes, you read that correctly. It is by turns disturbing and hilarious (my favourite combination).

I made cookies today! Gingersnaps and oatmeal-chocolate chip. C IS FOR COOKIE, THAT'S GOOD ENOUGH FOR ME.
